In 1932 Mr. Karagoda Pathiranage Methias Appuhami opened National Tea Rooms at the age of 27 and ran the business till 19xx.
“National Tea Rooms “was the second Tea room in Galle fort at that time and currently it is the oldest cafe inside Galle Fort.
There are 9 members in Mr. and Mrs. Pathiranage’s family and time to time most of the family members involved and developed the business
Second youngest daughter of Mr. Pathiranage’s, Keerthi Latha De Silva who was a nurse by profession moved out from Colombo in 1981 and reopened the cafe with the support of his husband Mr. Jayasena De Silva.
New business was picking up quickly not only due to tasty & quality of food but also due to friendly environment and the hospitality.
In the period of 1985 -2018 many foreigners attracted to the cafe for traditional Sinhalese vegetarian and non vegetarian rice and curries. Also the taste of the tea remains unchanged from the day one and the secret is traditional method of tea boiling. Not only foreigners but also locals have commented as “The best cup of tea in Galle town”.
Mr and Mrs. De Silva had been running the business for last 35 years and currently managed by their son and his family.
